TITLE: Maintenance Technician - Landscape
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plan, design, install, troubleshoot and maintain manual and automatic sprinkler and drip systems.
Performs backflow testing and repairs; maintains and repairs landscaping maintenance machinery and
tools. Plants and maintain shrubs, trees, and flowers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. Five (5) years of experience in landscape maintenance preferred.
3. Experience in landscape sprinkler system installation and repairs, backflow testing and repairs;
the maintenance and repair of landscaping maintenance machinery
4. Must have the ability to obtain backflow certification
5. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
6. Arizona Driver’s License with clean driving record

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, design, install, troubleshoot and maintain manual and automatic drip and sprinkler systems.
- Plans and designs landscaping; determines plant location taking into consideration such factors as
lighting, water availability, temperature, humidity and space requirements.
- Test, inspect and repair to various backflow assemblies associated with irrigation systems.
- Perform routine inspection and maintenance on landscaping machinery and equipment.
- Plant and maintain shrubs, trees, flowers and groundcovers.
- Care for growing plants by watering, pruning, weeding and removing dead or damaged foliage or
limbs/branches.
- Mix and apply a variety of fertilizers to obtain proper nutrient balance for each plant.
- Mow lawns, remove debris from stairs and walks, rake leaves, edge sidewalks.
- May operate equipment to include mowers, trucks, forklifts, skid loader, trenchers, edgers, chain
saws, brush trimmers, and other landscaping hand tools.
- Assists in the maintenance of other areas within District.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance and irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, time clocks, valve electrical wiring and manifold functions
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Knowledge of fertilization techniques
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures of grounds care
- Skill in the repair and installation of underground irrigation sprinkler systems
- Skill in operating landscape maintenance equipment
- Skill in verbal and written communication
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery
Exposure to extreme weather conditions
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Lifts, moves, or carries objects weighing up to 80 pounds
Bending, stooping or standing for prolonged periods of time
Operate a District vehicle
