TITLE: Information Technology Network PAY GRADE: 80 Exempt
Operations Manager


Supervise the IT Network Operations team including: Network Engineers, Software/Technical Support
Specialists and Telecommunications Systems Specialist. Manage all aspects of the network utilized by
Tempe School District No.3 and oversee proper operation of district servers, district and schools network
infrastructure and wide area network, district eRate application and management of eRate projects.
Manage one or more large complex projects that impact district-wide customers and that deliver strategic
value to the district and have a direct impact on customer satisfaction. Play a primary role in the
implementation, utilization, and support of all network infrastructure used by district staff and students.

1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or
trade/vocational school.
2. Prior management experience with emphasis on network operations, servers, switches, routers,
wireless, VOIP, VLANS, VPN, firewall, virtual environment and network accounts.
3. Minimum five (5) years previous management/supervisory experience (preferred).
4. Valid AZ Driver’s License (required).

- Coordinate and implement eRate projects for the district under the direction of the Director of
School Support and Systems.
- Organize and manage repair, maintenance, and service of network infrastructure,
telecommunications and inventory.
- Develop and review project proposals and plans to determine time frames, cost projections,
staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources.
- Establish and motivate cross functional teams for projects that have a span of impact across
departmental boundaries.
- Provide clear directions, deliverables and expectations to staff regarding projects and tasks.
- Effectively plan, organize and monitor work of staff.
- Confer with internal customers to outline project objectives and project status.
- Review project status reports prepared by team members and deliver project reports to the
Director of School Support and Systems.
- Maintain and upgrade network systems throughout their defined lifecycle.
- Confer with vendors, external partners and other experts to include developing, testing,
evaluating regarding network upgrades.
- Maintain, review and update network specifications regarding network infrastructure.
- Design and manage schema for public/private IP addressing and DNS services, group policies,
user access and server configuration.

- Design and manage network accounts including but not limited to Google, Active Directory and
Single Sign On.
- Oversee network infrastructure design for new/remodel construction projects.
- Manage MDM platform.
- Manage and control LAN/WAN performance, security, policies and procedures for LAN/WAN
- Manage protocols for operation within multi-platform networks that provide voice and data
- Plan in relation to disaster recovery.
- Follow the District’s vision, mission and goals when working independently and/or in conjunction
with staff and other members of assigned teams.
- Attend meetings and participate on committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

? Knowledge of District, Federal and State rules and regulations governing school operations and
software applications
? Knowledge of the work performed by subordinate staff and experience managing network staff
? Knowledge of computer networks and hardware computing platforms plus related operating
? Skill in managing one or more large, complex projects that impact district-wide customers and
deliver strategic value to the district
? Skill in utilizing effective verbal or written communication in the performance of all
communications with end users and other customers
? Skill utilizing customer service techniques in responding to inquiries, requests and complaints
? Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
? Skill and expertise in the use of standard office software
? Ability to coach and mentor staff

Fast paced environment with multiple deadlines. Exposure to rooms with temperatures maintained at or
below 70 degrees. May work varied hours. May be required to telecommute in addition to working onsite.

Position may require climbing, stooping, standing, walking, bending, eyestrain with repetitive motions.
May lift, move, push or carry materials, equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. May work in
confined spaces.
