TITLE: Director of Student Support

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Serve as the responsible line administrator for student support services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of Master Degree in Education
2. Arizona Administrative Certification
3. Background or experience in special education
4. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration and of current
educational trends in special education (Reauthorization of IDEA)
5. Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures and practices of the specialties
assigned to the department
6. Ability to manage fiscal, physical and human resources to successfully carry out the functions and
programs of the department
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Coordinate the services of coordinators, school psychologists, counselors, school nurses,
community liaisons, social workers, attendance officer, program specialist, itinerant special
education teachers and other assigned staff.
- Assist in the screening and interviewing process, making recommendations for employment,
placement, promotion, suspension or termination actions regarding student support staff, special
education staff and related services staff.
- Monitor and make recommendations on staffing needs for special programs and related services.
- Develop tentative budgets for the Student Support Department (including special education, and
entitlement funds), and coordinate related state and federal grants (VI-B, Pre-School, Discretionary
Funds) maintaining such controls and reports as may be required or warranted for the efficient
operation of the department.
- Responsible for IDEA & 504 Law Compliance.
- Responsible for student transfer procedures for special education.
- Recommend to the Superintendent, the establishment of such policies as would provide for the
efficient and progressive operation of the Student Support Department.
- Coordinate the activities of this department with other departments, schools and outside agencies
as necessary; administer special student programs to school level administrators through the
appropriate channels, when applicable.
- Coordinate and monitor special education programs and implement special education curriculum in
cooperation with appropriate administrators.
- Coordinate the testing and evaluation procedures and programs of the teachers assuring that such
programs are conducted within the guidelines of state mandates and district policy and use
generally accepted professional criteria and techniques.
- Coordinate the operation of health and health consultation programs.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff in accordance with preplanned and
mutually understood goals. - Responsible for staff development for special education teachers throughout the district.
- Direct and maintain a central student record function for the district.
- Serve as a member of the District Leadership Team to assist in establishing goals and direction in
accordance with the district’s policies, regulations, procedures, and planning processes.
- Attend Governing Board meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY: D63

WORK YEAR: 12 months

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

EVALUATION: Administrative Evaluation
