TITLE: Computer Lab Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist, monitor, and instruct students under the supervision of the classroom teacher on a variety of
computer software and peripherals in the computer lab; maintain operation of hardware and complete
software updates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. AA degree, or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university or a passing score on the
ParaPro Assessment (preferred)
3. One (1) year of computer help desk or computer troubleshooting experience (preferred)
4. Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Maintain physical condition of the computer lab, computers, and accessories including running
regular updates.
- Assist students with learning computers skills.
- Prepare computer lab for classes based on lesson plans prepared by teachers.
- Communicate with teachers regarding changes in computer lab/mobile cart schedule that may
affect availability of requested programs.
- Troubleshoot problems on individual computers, perform minor repairs and call for repair if
necessary; follow up on repair requests and status.
- Provide information to teachers regarding operation of lab computer hardware and programs.
- Communicate and report to the IT Department regarding websites providing inappropriate materials
or content.
- Administer computer based assessments, create test sessions, and set up testing computers as
assigned.
- Participate in professional development.
- Manage the inventory of devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

? Knowledge of basic computer hardware, software and related peripherals maintenance and
utilization.
? Knowledge of instructional methods and techniques.
? Knowledge of District, federal and state rules and regulations governing telecommunications and
software applications.
? Knowledge of District policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
? Knowledge of District behavior modification program.
? Knowledge of testing procedures and State standards.
? Skill utilizing effective verbal and written communication. ? Skill working with elementary/middle school children with a variety of abilities.
? Skill setting up, installing, upgrading, troubleshooting/repair and supporting computers and end
users.
? Skill monitoring and assisting students.
? Skill utilizing customer service techniques in responding to inquiries, requests and complaints.
? Skill maintaining confidential files and records.
? Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
? Ability to work with culturally diverse students.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Generally an indoor classroom setting
Position is exposed to infectious disease

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Position may require climbing, stooping, standing, walking, lifting, keyboarding, talking, hearing, and
eyestrain, with repetitive motions through extensive utilization of computer hardware and software.
Position may require lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying furniture, equipment and supplies weighing up to
25 pounds infrequently.
Mentally challenging utilizing a high degree of independent judgement and complex problem solving
