TITLE: Chief Financial Officer


Oversee the operations of the Finance Department and compliance with appropriate federal and state
rules and regulations. Assist with the preparation of the annual budget as well as annual financial reports.
Ensure that resources are being used efficiently and effectively and in a manner that supports the goals
of the District.


1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Related Field
2. Master Degree or CPA (preferred)
3. Minimum of five (5) years of management/supervisory experience in one or more of these areas -
business management, school business operations, accounting

- Oversee the operations the Finance Department including accounting, budgeting, purchasing,
payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets and federal and state grant reporting. Recommend the
hiring, placement, promotion, or termination of employees in the Finance Department.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual district budget including preparing budget limit projections,
corroborating ADM and staffing, providing salary and benefit estimates, and coordinating school
and department requests. Monitor the District budget and cash accounts to ensure that sufficient
resources are available to meet District expenditures.
- Prepare financial reports including the Annual Financial Report (AFR), Comprehensive Annual
Financial Report, Bond and Override Report, Tempe Group Insurance Fund (TGIF) Quarterly
Reports and other reports as requested or required.
- Ensure the District complies with the requirements of USFR, Arizona Revised Statutes, GASB,
Governing Board policies and other applicable federal/state guidelines relating to school finance
and procurement and that proper internal controls are in place to safeguard accurate and
reliable accounting data and to protect district resources against theft, fraud and
- Assist in the issuance, reporting and tracking of bonds, monitor the debt service fund to ensure
revenues collected and payments made are accurate, and prepare schedules for outstanding
- Assist in the coordination of elections with Maricopa County and preparation of materials for
elections for overrides and bonds as allowed by law.
- Coordinate the annual independent audit of the District and prepare financial schedules as
required to prepare the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
- Participate in the Tri-District 403(b)/457 Committee meetings, Tempe Group Insurance Fund
Trust Board meetings, Insurance Committee meetings and other committee meetings as
- Review processes and procedures to ensure operations are effective and efficient and
implement best practices in school finance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
