TITLE: Teacher - Upper Elementary (Montessori)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Montessori Elementary Teacher is a guide who helps direct his/her students’ activities academically,
emotionally, and physically. This is done in a Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach
their highest potential as they make learning connections using higher level thinking to problem solve and
make sense of the world around them, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Arizona Standard Professional Elementary certificate

2. Experience teaching 4 -6th grades (preferred)
3. Montessori Elementary I-II or II teaching credential from an AMS, NCME, AMI teacher education
program, or a MACTE-accredited course for the age level of the program
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the
following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not
a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities performed by the incumbents of this class.)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct appropriate academic screening and ongoing observational assessments.
- Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress.
- Develop lessons and manage the learning experiences for students to ensure the needs of the
groups and individual students are met.
- Maintain a safe, neat, and well-organized environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy.
- Work to develop close and effective relationships with parents, including opportunities to discuss
and understand the child’s individual progress and encourages them to bond with the class and
the larger school community.
- Provide individual tracking of student progress.
- Plan, conduct and/or participate in professional development.
- Direct activities of instructional assistants.
- Provide performance evaluation input regarding instructional assistant(s) to school administrator.
- Attend all necessary training and department meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
