TEMPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE: Coach - Literacy
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide leadership and instructional expertise in language arts proficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Arizona Elementary Teacher certification
2. Reading endorsement
3. Minimum three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience
4. Experience working with English Language Learners (preferred)
5. Bilingual/ESL endorsement (preferred)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct on-going in-service training and coaching, where appropriate, for teachers and
instructional assistants.
- Disaggregate and interpret assessment data to develop instructional strategies to increase
student growth and achievement.
- Assist in the diagnosis, prescription and evaluation of students in language arts programs at
schools.
- Collaborate, coordinate and assist classroom teachers in providing language arts instruction.
- Provide demonstration and assistance to teachers in the classroom with modeling and best
practices for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Assist with ELL language arts strategies, assessments and compliance.
- Attend Language Arts meetings with District Language Arts Program Coordinator.
- Dependent upon the special needs of the school, assist the Principal with the management of the
language arts program and specialized instructional materials.
- Manage testing schedules, materials and data; prepare and analyze reports.
- Participate in parent activities.
- Assist with district-level staff development in language arts.
- Attend professional growth opportunities.
- Assist building administrator with tasks related to language arts and/or implementation of the
school wide plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
