TEMPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

TITLE: Teacher General Choral Music

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide general music and choral music experiences and instruction for the elementary or middle school
student that will lead the student to a positive attitude toward music, a better understanding of music and
greater skill in expressing music.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor Degree
2. Arizona Elementary or Secondary Certification with Music endorsement
3. Performance experience in choir, general music teaching specialty, or related areas

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Teach skills in singing, playing, listening, reading, moving and writing.
- Teach knowledge of musical elements, expression, structure, and historical and cultural aspects
of music.
- Create an effective environment that leads to the development of positive attitudes in, awareness
of, and response to musical elements; conscious building of good self-concepts; willingness to
use knowledge to perform and to explore and create musical ideas.
- Develop an atmosphere of cooperation and discipline which reflects good citizenship.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional activities and materials based on district goals and curriculum.
- Participate cooperatively with fellow teachers and appropriate administrators to develop an
effective program of general/choral music.
- Provide activities and instruction that will include individual, small group and large group settings
that may include inter-school program participation.
- Maintain professional competence through district in-service or self-selected professional growth
activities.
- Maintain accompaniment skills on piano.
- Maintain accurate grading records in accordance with district, federal and state guidelines.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment (updated annually).
- Report needed repair and cooperate in fair use of district materials and equipment.
- Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.
- Participate with students in public performances, festivals, and district-wide honor programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
