TITLE: Teacher - Middle School Dance

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To teach the sequential skills, content, and attitudes necessary to develop a dance literate student body
through exposure, and enrichment opportunities in dance. To teach techniques of dance expression; to
discover and develop talents and skills of pupils in the field of dance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor Degree
2. Arizona Elementary or Secondary Certification with Dance endorsement or K-12 Dance
Certification
3. SEI or full Bilingual or ESL endorsement (preferred)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Teach foundations of dance to students, and teach fundamental principles of dance.
? Build dance proficiency.
? Plan a balanced dance program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and
instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
? Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of
each student and prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student
differences.
? Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive
environment during practice, group rehearsals, and dance performances.
? Evaluate each student’s dance growth and performance, assessing each student’s individual
growth and contribution to the performance of the group.
? Plan, rehearse, and direct students in dance performances for school and/or community.
? Cooperate with school administration in providing programs for school productions, and civic
functions.
? Communicate with parents and school counselors on student's progress.
? Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district,
and/or self-selected professional growth activities and collaborate with colleagues as necessary.
? Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.
? Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures.
? Perform other duties as assigned.
