TEMPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE: Teacher - Middle School
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To create a flexible middle school grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and
personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and
knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each pupil’s ability; establish good
relationships with parents and with other staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor Degree
2. Arizona Elementary and/or Secondary Certification
3. Appropriately certified in core subject area
4. Provisional SEI or full Bilingual or ESL endorsement
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate teaching skills and knowledge in assigned academic area, utilizing course of study
adopted by the Governing Board and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct pupils in subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and
procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group
instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Evaluate pupil’s academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress
reports.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and
interpret the school program.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and
helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin
boards and interest centers.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development activities
provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Select and requisition instructional aids and materials; maintain required inventory records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
