TITLE: Teacher - English Language Development

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To develop fluent English-speaking ability and comprehension of academic English language through
Structured Instructional strategies which are techniques that are used to make the concepts
understandable for students whose first language is other than English. To foster respect and knowledge
of the students’ language and culture in listening, speaking, writing, reading, and multicultural instruction
through Structured language methodology. Classroom will include English Language Learning students
as well as Fluent English Proficient students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Arizona Elementary Teacher certification with SEI, ESL, or Bilingual endorsement; or Arizona
Secondary Teacher certification with English as an approved area and SEI, ESL, or Bilingual
endorsement.
2. Training in techniques for teaching a second language
3. Previous teaching experience with pupils who come from environments where the language is
other than English (preferred)
4. Speaking ability in Spanish or other language(s) (preferred)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assess and diagnose proficiency of students in all language skills and basic concepts in English
and Spanish or other home language.
- Develop lesson activities and materials to meet the prescribed needs of all students and
communicate those needs to school staff and parents as needed.
- Provide listening, speaking, writing, reading and multicultural instruction through Structured
English Methodology to English Language Learning students.
- Coordinate with other professional personnel to provide appropriate academic English acquisition
instruction for all students.
- Develop and maintain records appropriate and necessary for the English Language Learning
program.
- Maintain knowledge of current practices and methods for working with students whose primary
language is other than English.
- Maintain open communication with parents or legal guardians.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
