TITLE: Specialist - Speech Language Pathology Assistant


Provide therapy assistance to Speech Language Impaired students as defined by the Speech Language
Pathologist (SLP); assist in the assessment of students; provide written and verbal input to the SLP
regarding formal documentation.


1. Arizona Department of Health Services State Speech Language Pathology Assistant license
2. Bachelor Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders (preferred)
3. Completion of 100 hours of supervised field work experience (preferred)
4. Ability to change and adapt to variable schedules
5. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned
6. Experience working with children (preferred)
7. Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written)
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with special
education and other district personnel
9. Ability and willingness to participate in professional growth training activities

- Implement direct interventions with communication delayed/disordered students under the
supervision of a certified speech-language pathologist.
- Assist the SLP with speech and language screenings without clinical interpretation.
- Assist the SLP during assessment of students exclusive of administration and/or interpretation.
- If Bilingual, assist the SLP with Bilingual translation during screening and assessment activities
exclusive of interpretation.
- Assist with data collection and progress monitoring activities.
- Schedule and organize for a caseload of students under the supervision of a certified speech
language pathologist.
- Assist the speech-language pathologist with clerical tasks.
- Assist with instructional material preparation.
- Participate in Medicaid billing and required paperwork.
- Attend to school duties as assigned by building administrator.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and district related meetings as
determined by supervisor.
- Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification.
- Register with Medicaid as a provider; maintain daily and Medicaid logs and time study.
- Review and maintain speech language files and related paperwork.
- Attend monthly speech language meetings. - May be required to participate in student’s meetings which occur beyond the staff’s work
assignment schedule.
- May require strength and ability to lift, push or pull 30-35 pounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Language Pathologist
