TITLE: Physical Therapist DEPARTMENT: Student Support

As a licensed professional, adhere to the Arizona State Practice Act and related state law and the APTA’s
Code of Ethics and Best Practice foundations; conduct assessments and validate students’ eligibility for
physical therapy services and/or therapeutic support; provide treatment as well as training, consultation
and documentation; participate on IEP/MET teams district wide on an itinerant basis to support students’
motoric and educational accessibility needs.

1. Arizona Board of Physical Therapy Examiners license
2. Two (2) years experience working with neurological disorders, developmental disabilities and
multiple disabilities (preferred)
3. One (1) year pediatric physical therapy experience (preferred)
4. Knowledge and application of adaptive devices, assistive technology, durable medical equipment
and environmental engineering issues as school related (preferred)
5. Physically capable of moving, assisting and lifting materials and students each day and
potentially experiencing repetitive motion demands
6. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned
7. Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP and evaluate outcomes in specialty

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act,

- Conduct evaluation; develop and implement appropriate therapeutic programs for students.
- Validate outside diagnostic evaluations and program recommendations.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) process as needed.
- Recommend and assist with procurement of therapeutic equipment and adaptive devices based
on student needs and design specialized equipment as needed.
- Plan, conduct and/or participate in in-service professional development activities in the area of
physical therapy.
- Direct activities of assigned instructional assistants as appropriate.
- Register with Medicaid as a provider; maintain daily and Medicaid logs and time study.
- May be required to participate in student’s meetings which occur beyond the staff’s work
assignment schedule.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and district laws, policies and standards affecting
special education services and disability issues in the public schools.

- Maintain current knowledge of district procedures and practices regarding identification,
evaluation, placement, services structure and trans-disciplinary support.
- Maintain knowledge and skills in applying principles of child development, pediatric health,
rehabilitation, and medical interventions to the students’ educational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
