TITLE: Physical Education and Athletics Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide leadership and staff development opportunities that will support the district physical education
curriculum and athletics program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Arizona Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification with physical education endorsement
2. Administrative Certification
3. Master Degree with training in the Pangrazi method (preferred)
4. Major in health and physical education at either the graduate or undergraduate level
5. Three (3) years successful experience teaching physical education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Work with principals and teachers to implement the stated goals and objectives of the district’s
physical education program.
- Responsible for organizing in-service education for the teaching staff in the field of physical
education.
- Develop and coordinate teaching schedules with the Executive Director of Instructional
Excellence and principals to maintain the physical education programs in the schools and to
promote continuity of programs among the schools.
- Coordinate with the Executive Director of Instructional Excellence the implementation of the state
goals and objectives of the district’s health education program.
- Promote harmonious working relationships with Physical Education teachers, schools and other
departments.
- Determine supplies and equipment needs for the physical education program, assuring that
appropriate procedures are followed for purchases and inventory. Maintain and disburse
equipment.
- Work in consultation with the appropriate district personnel and principals in regard to playground
equipment safety.
- Coordinate public relations efforts; demonstrate and interpret the physical education program to
the community.
- Work with the school and district administrators overseeing the physical education program.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district
and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Model instructional strategies in classrooms.
- Coordinate annual athletic events.
- Schedule Officials, Scorekeepers and Supervisors for athletic events.
- Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise coaches for each sport.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY: C43

WORK YEAR: 12 Months

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Instructional Excellence

EVALUATION: Central Administrative Evaluation

SUPERVISES: Support Staff as assigned
