TITLE: IB MYP Music Teacher DEPARTMENT: Instructional

To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music in context as part of cultural history,
supporting the development of an inquiring and empathetic world view. To teach techniques of
instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop
knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

1. Bachelor Degree
2. Arizona Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification with Music endorsement
3. Provisional SEI or full Bilingual or ESL endorsement
4. International Baccalaureate MYP teaching experience (preferred)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act,

- Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music and in instrumental music
(band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) to pupils.
- Plan content to incorporate the IB Aims and Objectives by IBO Subject Area Guides while
ensuring that local and state standards are addressed.
- Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and
instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of
each pupil. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment
during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution
to the performance of the group.
- Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. Participate in
district-wide festivals, and honor programs. Cooperate with school administration in providing
programs for school productions, and civic functions.
- Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are
appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.

- Maintain an accurate inventory of district and school owned instruments, method books,
instrument parts and supplies. Control the storage and use of equipment and materials; make
minor repairs and request further repairs to instruments as required.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district,
and/or in self-selected professional growth activities and collaborate with colleagues as
- Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.
- Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
