JOB DESCRIPTION:

Coordinate the implementation of special education programs with the maximum consideration of
inclusion and least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Arizona Special Education Teacher certification required
2. Master Degree in Special Education (preferred)
3. Highly Qualified as required by IDEA 2004
4. At least five (5) years of successful experience with special education students
5. Knowledge of district special education programs
6. Knowledge of all areas of exceptionality, including gifted and preschool (preferred)
7. Broad knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply special education laws, procedures, and
compliance standards
8. Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
9. Experience in staff professional development
10. Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent special education at meetings regarding special education students or potential
special education students.
- Consult with staff regarding placements, resources, and programming of special needs students.
- Conduct staff training and professional development for regular and special education staff.
- Facilitate the process of changing the placement of a student environment. Consulting with all
staff in regards to meeting the LRE requirements of a student.
- Provide information to Tempe Elementary School District #3 staff regarding policy and
procedures for special needs students.
- Support effective transitions for special education students through the educational continuum
from preschool through high school.
- Assist in difficult situations with students by facilitating meetings and problem resolutions with
parents as well as staff.
- Provide technical assistance for student learning and behavior challenges/needs as requested by
Tempe Elementary School District #3 staff.

- Provide case management for students placed in private placement facilities by the District or
voucher agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Director of Instructional Excellence and/or Coordinator of Professional Development
