Instructional Assistant -
TITLE: PAY GRADE: 30
Preschool

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist teacher with special needs children including bilingual, culturally diverse, resource, preschool,
English Second Language, etc. Modify or assist in modifying lesson plans to individual student needs.
Work with teachers to overcome student barriers to learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A high school diploma or GED is required.
2. An Associate degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, or a passing
score on the ParaPro Assessment (required)
3. Ability to obtain or have completed Childhood Development Associate (CDA) or Certificate of
completion/AAS in Early Childhood Education for preschool programs
4. One (1) year of experience working with children (preferred)
5. Ability to obtain certification in Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid
6. Fingerprint Clearance Card
7. Food Handler’s Card
8. Ability to speak fluent Spanish (preferred)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist teachers with children in classroom settings.
- Work with student in one-on-one or small group settings to facilitate learning.
- Modify lessons to accommodate child’s needs such as English-Spanish translation, individualized
instruction, etc.
- Prepare class materials for upcoming projects and activities.
- Assist teachers in thematic units.
- Monitor students on playground and in classroom.
- Utilize district behavior modification program as needed.
- Observe students’ development.
- Test students and prepare documentation on student progress.
- Organize materials/activities to meet specific needs of each child.
- Copy material for classroom use and for parent information.
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teacher on progress of students.
- Attend training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Generally an indoor classroom setting
Position is exposed to infectious disease

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
May lift, pull, push and carry.
May stand for a prolonged period of time
May move light weight furniture
Exposure to outside elements
May require strength ability to push/pull 30-35 lbs.
Physical demands may require assistance from other personnel.
