TEMPE ELEMENTARY

TITLE: Fleet Mechanic PAY GRADE: 52

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections on all District vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. Five (5) years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automobiles

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair and maintain District vehicles; fluid changes, brakes, air conditioning, electrical systems,
tire service, power transmission, computer diagnostics, cooling systems, chassis repair and
wheelchair lift.
- Operate shop machines to rebuild or fabricate machine parts.
- Operate service repair vehicle, providing repair service at site of vehicle breakdown.
- Road test vehicles to locate operational defects prior to returning to active use; assess vehicle
condition.
- Maintain records related to automotive repair work, work order requests, safety inspection
checklist, drivers write-ups, estimates, and proposed or completed projects.
- Maintain employee time sheets and absence cards.
- Occasionally order and receive parts, vendor relations.
- Schedule safety inspections and repairs and interact with drivers on troubleshooting.
- Remove and install video surveillance systems in buses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
? Knowledge and skills of PC usage
? Knowledge in the diagnosis and repair of automotive equipment
? Knowledge of a wide variety of automotive and mechanical equipment
? Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in automotive
and equipment maintenance and repair work
? Skill in operating shop tools and machines
? Skill in both verbal and written communications
? Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment
? Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License, ASE certification, and brake inspection certificate

Hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery
