TITLE: Family Support Specialist DEPARTMENT: Student Support

YEAR: 185 Days SALARY: Certified


Develop and instruct parents in strategies and resources that will result in successful student learning.

1. Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university
2. Valid Arizona teaching certificate in adult education (preferred)
3. Experience working with families and the community
4. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
5. Ability to relate to students, parents, teachers, and provide assistance as needed
6. Ability to work and contribute positively as a member of a team
7. Ability to be flexible, adjust to change, and manage interruptions
8. Bilingual (preferred)
9. Ability to maintain organized records and report information

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act,

- Assist in recruiting families from the community and determining eligibility for involvement in the
- Facilitate parent’s involvement in the school.
- Provide instruction to parents in the program.
- Prepare necessary paperwork and collect data in individual, family and program achievement for
evaluation in the project.
- Assist the team in developing appropriate instruction for the family.
- Provide parents with information and referrals to the community resources as needed.
- Maintain open lines of communication with principals, classroom teachers, psychologists, nurses,
- Work with community agencies in developing programs or support that will assist families.
- Provide community linkage and recruitment information.
- Develop awareness of and sensitivity to families’ cultural patterns.
- Develop incentives to keep families involved.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION: Teacher Evaluation
SUPERVISES: Teaching Assistant (if assigned)
