TITLE: Families In Transition Driver PAY GRADE: 32

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Operate a school vehicle within an established time schedule; transport students to and from school in a
safe manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. Must be 21 years of age with at least one (1) year driving experience and a clean driving record.

incumbents of this class.)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for driving district vehicles, other than school buses, for the transportation of
homeless students on non-scheduled routes and irregular schedules, between district schools
and their assigned shelter locations.
- Inspect vehicle ensuring that it is safe to operate and report discrepancies to mechanical staff.
- Keep vehicle clean inside and out, and clean windows to ensure good visibility.
- Transport students in a safe manner, to include seat belts.
- Assist students with loading and unloading when necessary.
- Pick up and deliver students curb side in appropriate manner.
- Interact with students, maintaining good student/driver relationship; maintain order and ensure
safety and comfort of students.
- Complete forms; misconduct forms, accident or injury reports, mileage reports, inspection forms,
Medicaid documents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
? Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques, and motor vehicle laws
? Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR procedures and other emergency procedures
? Knowledge of safety and maintenance requirements of vehicle and other student transportation
equipment
? Knowledge in the safety practices and procedures for emergencies
? Knowledge of District and department procedures and policies related to Homeless student
transportation and as related to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 2002
? Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships
? Skill in both verbal and written communications
? Ability to pass Department of Transportation Annual and Random drug screens and Alcohol
testing

? Ability to read maps and knowledgeable of the metropolitan area
? Ability to make quick decisions, related to a child’s health and well being
? Ability to assist a child with limited ability
? Ability to handle verbal and possible physical challenges
? Manage students with various disabilities, often simultaneously, such as: Emotional, Physical,
Mental, Visual, Hearing, Learning, Non-Verbal, Behavior, Medically Fragile and Multi disabled.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Dangerous machinery and or hazardous chemical
Exposure to extreme weather conditions
Potential physical harm and verbal abuse
Highly exposed to body fluids, germs, lack personal cleanliness

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Able to lift, push, pull or carry students or heavy items of 50 pounds or greater
Physically able to bend, stoop, twist.
