TITLE: Carpenter PAY GRADE: 48


Perform skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance and repair of building structures and
related facilities and fixtures; perform duties in collaboration with other trades areas as required in order
to maintain District facilities.

1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
2. Five (5) years of journeyman level experience in the construction, installation and repair of
building structures and related facilities and fixtures
3. Valid Arizona Driver’s License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act,
may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is

incumbents of this class.)

- Install and maintain doors and hardware such as panic devices, cylindrical locks, door closer, and
automatic door openers.
- Re-key and cut keys.
- Install chalkboards, dry erase boards, movie screens, bulletin boards, book display racks, pencil
sharpeners, flags, map rails, etc.
- Install wood and metal doors and frames and build and install custom cabinets and formica work.
- Repair gymnasium bleachers, furniture, cabinets, cafeteria tables, and wooden playground
- Install vinyl composition tile on new floors, repair damaged vinyl and carpet, and perform
incidental asbestos abatement.
- Design and fabricate project from wood, metal and plexiglass and construct and repair school and
office furniture equipment and fixtures.
- Build stairways, closets, cases, shelving, wood and steel stud walls, and floor structures.
- Hang drywall on new walls or to repair damaged walls.
- Fit doors, windows and screens into existing structures.
- Design and estimate costs on bidding capital outlay projects, and oversee projects by outside
vendors or in-house.
- Operate lathes, planes, jointers, bandsaws and other woodworking machinery.
- Sharpen hand tools and ensure that tools and equipment are properly cared for.
- Maintain records on time, labor and materials.
- Operate District vehicle for travel to work sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

? Ability to perform skilled carpentry tasks involving the maintenance and repair of buildings and
? Ability to read blueprints and work from plans and specifications
? Ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license
